A Sicilian man is taking a restaurant to court after his extramarital affair was revealed in a TikTok video. The promotional video went viral, exposing his actions and ending his marriage.

As reported many times, The 42-year-old man had told his wife that he was attending a business dinner. Actually, he was enjoying a date with another woman in a restaurant in Catania. The encounter was captured on camera by the restaurant’s TikTok video, filmed without their consent. The promotional video was posted online and watched by his wife. After learning of her husband’s adultery the wife announces that she is leaving him.

Italy’s consumer rights group, Codacons, has come forward to represent the husband and is pushing for compensation. They are arguing that the restaurant did not obtain customer permission before filming. Additionally, they crossed another line by posting TikTok videos without consent, which is potentially a violation of Italian privacy laws.

“For a restaurant to film its customers without explicit permission and post the footage online, thereby exposing individuals to unpredictable consequences, is unacceptable,” requested Kodacons spokesperson Francesco Tanassi. Tanasi also said that in such circumstances, publishing such videos could have “extremely serious impacts on a person’s personal and family life”.

Kodacons is taking a tough stance, and if the restaurant doesn’t budge, they plan to take the matter to Italy’s data protection authority. This could result in serious consequences for restaurants, including potential fines under Italian data protection laws.

The incident is reminiscent of the scandal that broke out after a married boss’s affair with his HR executive was exposed on camera at a Coldplay concert in July 2025.
