Feeling “deep pain” and “regret” over the relationship, Dennis claims that the abuse was fraudulent – that he was even allegedly surveilling her:
“I texted another guy at the end of our relationship. I wasn’t intimate with him. I didn’t even see him. I was really trying to move out. Uh so I wasn’t dating him. Never saw him. And Aaron really knows this. He saw every single text message. He had me under surveillance for two years I didn’t know until the divorce that it was okay to be called by different names. And um so that but I feel like he was like, ‘Aha, I got something on that. Oh, she might be the bad guy now.”
While discussing the importance of documenting the abuse (for example, taking pictures of bruises), she also claims that he would sometimes take over her devices and delete things she didn’t like from her phone! That’s why she says she’s glad she emailed the photos to her old email account as well.

Not only this, she also alleges:
“He was very smart. He had things that allowed him to put things on my equipment.”
Jenny then asks if he means things that can track him, to which he says, “Yes.”
At some point during their time with them, Aaron’s family moved in with them. Because of this, Jenny wonders if they ever helped her or witnessed the abuse, but Denise says:
“The abuse started, verbal [abuse] Started before they came down, and before they came down he hit me, but [he] It was like, “Oh my God, I can’t believe I did this to you, I’m so sorry.” Then it will be really good for a period and then something physical will happen [again]. But it was only when they went down that it became terrifying. …Actually I remember I was screaming for them because they locked me in the bedroom and I was screaming and I was like why aren’t they helping me?
His hope in talking publicly about all of this is that it will help others going through similar experiences:
“Because I want to help other people. I was gonna wait until everything was over, I just don’t know when that would be, so fuck it, I wanted to share. I was too, when I filed this [RO]Afraid of other people’s judgment. There’s so much shame in staying in an abusive relationship and feeling like I can’t do this [happen] Because I am a strong woman. There are layers.”
