A catchy cover of the Black Sabbath classic wins over Adam Levine in the latest episode sound.
During the blind auditions for Season 30 on Monday (October 5), the 25-year-old dakota cohen “Changes” – Bluesy piano ballad originally released on Black Sabbath’s 1972 album Vol. 4 and later sung by frontman Ozzy Osbourne. It took most of the song, but both Levine and fellow coach Riley Green were turning their chairs by the end, with Queen Latifah calling the performance “amazing” and “insane” and Green praising it as the “perfect song choice”.
Levine, who noted that he had pressed his button first, made the offensive pitch. “For me the song selection says a lot,” he said. “It was instant out of the gate; before I heard you sing a note, I wanted you on my team.”
He compared Cohen’s voice to Miley Cyrus and told her, “I love what you’re doing here and I believe this is your home.” Cohen ultimately chose Team Adam — a decision helped, he revealed, by a chance encounter years earlier, when Levine gave him a thumbs-up after hearing him sing Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning” at a restaurant.
The audition landed with added significance given the song’s history. Originally sung by Ozzy Osbourne on Black Sabbath’s 1972 album Vol. 4“Changes” received new life in 2003 when Osbourne re-recorded it as a duet with her daughter Kelly Osbourne, which topped the UK Singles Chart.
Osbourne died at the age of 76 in July 2025, a few weeks after Black Sabbath’s farewell concert; Following his death, “Changes” debuted at No. 42 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, making a primetime cover of one of his most tender vocals a poignant new song.
sound It is currently in its 30th season, with Clarkson, Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green serving as coaches. The show airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on NBC, with an airing the following day on Peacock.
