The Hollywood star was criticized after failing to stand up to welcome Brigitte Macron at the Louis Vuitton show during Paris Fashion Week earlier this week.
The Spider-Man star was sitting front row for a runway show at the Louvre when French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife Brigitte walked up to him.
The video shows Zendaya not paying attention to Brigitte as she chatted with another guest and then looking up to greet her with a smile.
The actress remained seated while saying ‘Hello, nice to meet you’ and waving, sparking online debate over whether she should have stood.
One The video received 27,000 likes and sparked a flurry of debate in the comments.
Many argued that it doesn’t matter who the guest is, ‘when you greet someone you stand, basic etiquette.’
‘Definitely rude!’ Never shake hands with anyone while sitting! Guess he hasn’t learned it,’ agreed another.
Another said, ‘This is the first time I’m seeing firsthand that Gen Z (no pun intended) really doesn’t have those basic manners, but not standing up is an unintentional power move.’

Others pointed out that when Bernard Arnault, the chief executive of LVMH, the world’s largest luxury goods group, which owns Louis Vuitton, greeted Brigitte before she arrived, Zendaya couldn’t even stand it.
One ex user said, ‘Don’t even get up to shake Mr Arnault’s hand, ha ha he owns LVMH…’ ‘That guy owns the LVMH group, which is something he should stand up for as he owns the entire fashion industry.’
‘It is customary to rise to welcome an elderly person or person of higher status, especially when they approach you. Even more so when it comes to the First Lady and the man who owns the brand you represent.’
However others defended the Hollywood star, asking, “Why should she stand up for him?”
‘Why? ‘Zendaya is not a foreign dignitary nor a citizen of France,’ another said.
‘I don’t believe in too much protocol etc… because she was not introduced as the first lady of France to attend the event. What matters to me is that he is polite and gave a sweet smile. I would prefer genuine expression rather than showy looks. Because if you think about it – it’s a fashion show,’ commented one fan on X.
Others pointed out that Zendaya had little time to react, adding, “It’s like she suddenly caught on… no big deal.”
