Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer have officially divorced, nearly a decade after first announcing the end of their marriage.
A Los Angeles court has formally reinstated the duo to single status. The ruling closes the matrimonial portion of the divorce case that remained open for years after Mayer initially filed it.
The former couple still have some issues to resolve and those cases will continue separately with the help of a private judge People.
Maguire and Mayer have continued to co-parent their two children together during the lengthy legal process, with Mayer repeatedly citing the actor as one of the closest people in her life, despite their separation.
Court reinstates Maguire and Mayer to single status
Their marital status was annulled on September 21, with the judgment filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on October 1.

The court retained jurisdiction over matters raised in the original divorce petition and Maguire’s response that were not included in the marital status decision. The former couple previously agreed to use a private judge as they worked out those remaining issues.
Mayer files for divorce after four years of separation
Maguire and Meyer married on 3 September 2007 and announced their separation in October 2016 after nine years of marriage.
At the time, she said her priority would be to raise her children with “lasting love, respect and friendship.” Mayer waited until October 2020 to formally file for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
Maguire filed his response in July 2025 and sought joint legal and physical custody of his son Otis. The former couple also have a daughter, Ruby.
Meyer says Maguire became her ‘best friend’ after split
Mayer has spoken openly about the hard work she and Maguire had to do to build a close relationship after the end of their marriage.

According to People, Mayer said, “Now I have an ex-husband who is my best friend and he would do anything for me, and I would do anything for him.”
He has also praised Maguire as a father and said that he tries to avoid major family occasions being split between separate households.
Their arrangement was particularly visible during the Los Angeles wildfires in early 2025, when Mayer, her fiancé Geoff Ogunlesi and children stayed with Maguire after the evacuation.
Mayer gets engaged to Geoff Ogunlesi and welcomes another daughter
Mayer became engaged to music executive Geoff Ogunlesi in August 2024.
The couple welcomed a daughter on May 20, 2026, and Mayer later shared the news publicly in a Father’s Day Instagram post, which showed Ogunlesi holding the baby.
Meyer has said that Maguire and Ogunlesi have developed a friendship of their own. He remembered seeing Maguire, Ogunlesi, and a friend of Maguire’s sitting together and watching a movie, while the mixed family lived under the same roof during the wildfires.
