season 5 premiere fire country But 2026 tv schedule Marked a memorable moment for the show. For the first time since its series premiere, the CBS drama added a new regular cast member to the cast. For the first four seasons, no one other than the core group introduced in the pilot came to live in Edgewater permanently. However, now Olivia Thirlby has joined the cast to play CJ Ryan, and I spoke to Max Thieriot about why now is the time to add her.
For the first three seasons of fire country, The cast remained exactly the same. Then, in season 4, Stephanie Arcila’s Gabriella is gone city, and billy burke’s vince died. This marked the first major cast change for the show. However, Season 5 begins with the addition of Thirlby, who plays a firefighter in Philly who has found himself in Edgewater for mysterious reasons. Speaking on all that, Thieriot, who co-created the show and plays Bode, said:
Obviously, some of our characters have left the show, and it’s really like you have to have the entire firehouse. And I think as we enter this fifth season, it’s important, I think, to kind of shake things up and breathe new life into the show. And a big way to do that is by adding new characters that can really bring new stories to the series, and that’s exactly what it does.

His inclusion has really opened up a new door for the cast and crew fire country, Also, as Max Thieriot told me:
Her character allows us to kind of reshape our current characters and, I don’t know, also get to know them in different ways because we have a new person, so she has a new perspective. And it offers so many different and exciting opportunities. And then I think also having someone at the event who has such a different perspective and different way of doing things and has such a different perspective and different way of doing things is exciting.
Talking about that new perspective, Thieriot detailed why Thirlby’s character brings it to the show. This is because she is new in town, and in a small town, a new person can change things completely. So, this Philly firefighter moving to Edgewater won’t just change that; It will also change the people around him, as the Bode actor explained:
I think she adds a totally new dynamic and new perspective, and she’s a character with a very different feel, you know? Especially because she’s not from Edgewater, and I think that’s really fun because it allows us to introduce a new character that we’ve known from the beginning again and get invested in her personal journey and her story in a new way. And also, we get to see how she fits into the puzzle and how she fits with our characters and what she brings to them, and what they all bring to each other.
Max Thieriot closed out his thoughts on CJ by saying that his “baggage and his own past” will be explored in the show, and adding that he thinks “the audience will like him.” Well, one episode in, and I already feel that way. She is confident, outspoken and it seems like both she and Bode have a lot to learn from each other.
Overall, I really want to learn more about this strong-willed and mysterious firefighter, and I’m thrilled that we know we’ll get to do that. CJ and Olivia Thirlby are in this for the long haul, and I’m so excited to see how their introduction affects everyone at Edgewater.
Now, to see just that, you can watch new episodes of fire country Every Friday at 9pm ET on CBS, and you can stream it the next day Paramount+ Subscription.
