round one fight!
“Street Fighter” returns to the big screen for a new take on the popular fighting game video series, which debuted in arcades in the 1980s and remains popular today.
The live-action film from Paramount and Legendary takes place in the ’90s and is based on a worldwide fighting tournament that brings together challengers from around the world. The roster includes Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) and his childhood friend and training partner Ryu (Andrew Koji), who has appeared in every “Street Fighter” video game. It features a colorful cast of companion characters such as Chun-Li (Calina Liang), M. Bison (David Dastmalchian), Cammy (Mel Jarson), Vega (Orville Peck) and others. The cast also features several real-life martial arts fighters, WWE stars and wrestlers, such as Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, and Oliver Richters as Zangief.
Kitao Sakurai, who has directed episodes of “Beef,” “Dave” and “The Eric Andre Show,” directs the film, which previously starred Danny and Michael Filippo (“Talk to Me,” “Bring Her Back). It’s actually the third “Street Fighter” film, following the 1994 self-titled film and the 2009 release “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.” 1994’s “Street Fighter” starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, Damien Chapa as Kane, Byron Mann as Ryu, and Kylie Minogue as Cammy. “The Legend of Chun-Li” was a notorious flop and featured Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li, Neal McDonough as M. Bison, Michael Black Eyed Peas singer Tabu as Clarke Duncan and Vega.
