Saturday night LiveWeekend Update once again mocked Donald Trump for losing the Nobel Peace Prize — and thinking he actually had a chance — and took aim at Pete Hegseth’s controversial plans to live-stream firing squad executions.
The Nobel Committee on Friday awarded its prize to Nawanthem “Navi” Pillay, a South African human rights lawyer and judge who investigates war crimes for the United Nations and the International Criminal Court.
Colin Jost joked, “Unfortunately we have to start tonight with a tragic, developing story involving President Trump. No, not that.” “It’s sad that President Trump hasn’t won the Nobel Peace Prize… but don’t worry. I think he’s taking it in stride.”
Jost then cut to the president’s speech at a rally in Syracuse, New York, on Friday, in which he said “no one has ever heard” of the recipient.
“He’s really angry about this He Didn’t win the Peace Prize,” Jost insisted. “Trump kidnapped the president of Venezuela, then he made so much war that we ran out of missiles, and he still thought: ‘This is my year.’”
“It’s really like I thought I could win an Oscar tom and jerry” Jost said about the 2021 live-action animated film.
Co-anchor Michael Che then expressed displeasure at how Pillay essentially mocked Trump’s desire for the award. She said, “If you clap a little more, I can share this award with Trump.”
“It’s a harmless little joke that might force Trump to attack the country he thinks he belongs to,” Che said.
Che then turned to Hegseth’s announcement that the firing squad execution of the Fort Hood mass shooter in December will be livestreamed.
Che said, if these plans were successful, it would result in “the first public execution in the US in – I want to say, a couple of weeks?” As soon as he said this, a picture of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents appeared on the screen.
Che then responded to how ICE agents are reportedly planning to use “shock” gloves — “which don’t leave marks, and cause incredible pain, hopefully to an agent who forgets to take them off at the urinal.”
Also on Weekend Update, James Austin Johnson plays a selfish Kevin O’Leary shark Tank The investor who is backing a massive data center complex in northwest Utah. After strong opposition from the public and state lawmakers, the facility is still being built, but has been reduced in size.
He said, “It’s very simple: All I want to do is buy 40,000 acres of God’s untouched splendor and replace it with a very loud computer that takes away your work.” “Will it take up precious water? Absolutely. Will it provide an essential service? Who can say. But on the other hand, it’s going to make me a tremendous amount of money, and I think that’s great.”
