SNL UK: James Austin Johnson’s Trump surprises in cold open

Donald Trump made his first appearance on “SNL UK” courtesy of “SNL” cast member James Austin Johnson.

Saturday Night’s cool open air features British Prime Minister Andy Burnham (George Fouracres) meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky (Freddie Meredith) to confirm Britain’s support for the war with Russia.

Meredith’s Zelensky said, “We need the US to restore Starlink internet. Without it, we are vulnerable to drone attacks.” “Plus, ‘Celebrity Traitors’ is so hard to stream. I’m way behind, no offense, but I think Richard E. Grant is going to go a long way.”

Fouracres, as Burnham replied, “Well, I can promise you now that I will raise all this with President Trump at the first opportunity.”

Johnson then came out with his spot-on Trump impression, the first crossover between “SNL UK” and “SNL” cast members. “Did someone say Richard E. Grant?” He said.

“President Trump?” exclaimed Fouracres Burnham.

“That’s right, you call my name and I appear,” Trump sad of Johnson. “I got the idea from my very close friend Beetlejuice, the late, great Beetlejuice. It’s one of two ways I’m like him, the other being a sex pest – allegedly, they can’t prove he did it all.”

When asked why he was in the UK, Johnson, as Trump, said he was in the city to see “my favorite comedian” performing live in the High Court “in the role of a defendant”, referencing the Russell Brand lawsuit.

Johnson’s Trump then revealed that he expected to swap jobs with Burnham. He said, “I take over Britain, you take over America.” “I tell you, that place is really messed up, you’ll hate it. It’s a terrible, terrible job. It’s a terrible place full of disgusting people, I don’t know what happened. Come on, switch jobs with me!”

Fouracres, as Burnham replied, “I can’t swap jobs with you now, Cocker! I’ve barely started. People don’t even hate me yet!”

Johnson’s Trump then started ranting about things he could fix in Britain, including the fact that M&S has too many varieties of Percy Pigs.

“And how about British comedy, guys? How bad it is, it’s not doing well,” he added. “‘SNL UK,’ you’re telling me you don’t have any guys – the whole cast, you don’t have a single guy who can play Trump? What a terrible situation. Some of these guys went to RADA! What’s that, the Royal Academy of Dogshit Actors? Oh, you can call bullshit on that! It felt really good.”

Johnson ultimately abandoned the job swap, as did Trump, saying: “Okay, I’ll go home. And Zelensky, if you need anything, let me know. Provided it’s not help with the war.”

Fouracres added as Burnham, “Sorry Zelensky, I’m an old scoffer. But no matter how serious things get, the most important thing is that we all be nice to this madman.”
