Saoirse Ronan responds to James Bond rumors about husband Jack Lowden

Saoirse Ronan has provided some insight into how her husband, “Slow Horses” actor Jack Lowden, is dealing with rumors that he is in the running to play James Bond.

Ronan revealed that she is not letting the idea of Loden becoming the next 007 cross her mind, saying, “To be honest, it’s not really a topic that comes up in our house; the dog needs to work, dinner needs to be made.”

The couple are understood to have welcomed their first child last year after getting married in 2024. In 2018 they appeared together in “Mary Queen of Scots”, with Ronan playing the titular royal and Lowden playing her husband. She is currently shooting Sam Mendes’ four-feature Beatles biopic, playing Linda McCartney opposite Paul Mescal’s Paul McCartney, while Lowden is working on the Apple TV spy drama “Slow Horses” with Gary Oldman.

“Well, Gary Oldman thinks [Jack] Is James Bond its own thing,” Ronan responded to a question from The Associated Press about how the couple was handling the rumors. “Honestly, I mean we’re moving on with our lives, we’ve got a lot of other things to deal with. To be honest, this isn’t really a topic that comes up in our house; The dog needs chores to do, dinner needs to be made. We are focusing more on that. Jack is on ‘Slow Horses’ right now and he’s having a good time on it.”

When Oldman revealed on a Canadian TV show last month that his co-star had landed the role, it seemed as if Oldman had dropped everything. “Such a rumor is spreading [Lowden] Is on the shortlist,” Oldman said.

“We’ll find out soon, right? Because they’ve chosen him. They’ve made their choice, but they haven’t announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

Amazon MGM Studios, which now owns and manages the Bond franchise, declined to comment and Oldman later backed down.

The last Bond film was 2021’s “No Time to Die,” in which Daniel Craig hung up his bow tie after playing the role for fifteen years. So far concrete news about the next feature in the franchise has been in short supply, although it has been confirmed that ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight is writing the script, which he claims has now been completed, while ‘Dune’ director Denis Villeneuve is directing.
