The average marriage typically lasts more than 20 years, no matter what or what it takes. But when it comes to Hollywood marriages, they often end about a third of the time. Celebrity Divorce Lawyer Vanessa Lloyd-Platt Calculated that celebrity marriages typically last just under 7.5 years, while celebrity splits result in longer divorce proceedings. One A-list couple that has still stood the test of time is Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. But, while they clearly love each other, not everyone loves them as a couple. There are some strange things about Bell and Shepard’s marriage that you just can’t ignore. But despite the backlash they’ve received on everything from their anniversary post to how they’re raising their kids, the celebrity couple is still going strong.
In fact, they are celebrating their 13th wedding anniversary on October 17, 2026. Bell and Shepard first met at a dinner party in 2007, and began dating shortly thereafter. Their relationship has sparked speculation of infidelity, with talk that Shepard cheated on Bell at the beginning of his relationship with Julie Andrews’ step-granddaughter, Kayti Edwards. Edwards and Shepard dated before he met the “Veronica Mars” star, but the podcast host has adamantly denied any romantic relationship with Bell after he officially started seeing her. There are also rumors that both are swingers. While we’re not here to judge people’s lifestyles, it turns out that Bell and Shepard don’t really swing that way and swapping keys or anything like that was just a joke.
Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell are focused on making things work, no matter what
On her 12th wedding anniversary, Kristen Bell came into controversy over a social media post in which people were coming after both her and Dax Shepard. The actor posted a picture Instagram The “Punk’d” alum gave her a tight hug, captioning it: “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once told me after an episode of Dateline: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’ve been strongly encouraged to kill you, I never would.'” Obviously, people weren’t exactly impressed by Bell shedding light on domestic violence. The “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” star didn’t say anything publicly, but possibly in response to negative public reaction, she turned off comments for the post.
Some other controversies involving this celebrity couple also involve their children. They welcomed their first daughter, Lincoln, in 2013, followed by their second daughter, Delta, in 2014. Then, in 2021, Bell and Shepard admitted that they bathed their daughters until they started smelling bad, which impressed everyone. The “Nobody Wants This” star later complained that she was tired of talking about it, arguing that everyone has different parents. As long as Bell and Shepard are on the same page, that’s all that matters. The “Frozen” star has also admitted on several occasions that marriage is hard. Bell and Shepard regularly attend therapy and couples counseling. It’s clear that they’re both in it to win it, no matter what anyone else has to say.
