Kathleen Turner is dishing out the “furore” over Michael Douglas confirming that the “Romancing the Stone” co-stars had an affair that they kept a secret for decades.
Turner, 72, addressed the revelation Friday in a brief, nonchalant way statement to the people.
“Lord, what a fuss there is about something [that happened] 40 years ago!” He quipped. “I like Michael, and I look forward to enjoying the book.”
Douglas, 82, revealed the secret relationship in her upcoming memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” ending four decades of denying that she and Turner were romantically involved.
At the time, the “Wall Street” actor was married to Diandra Luker — with whom he has son Cameron — though the two were separated and, according to Douglas, both were involved in “extramarital affairs.”
He writes that before meeting Turner he was in a relationship with “Romancing the Stone” screenwriter Diane Thomas, whom he described as “smart, funny and sexy.”
Douglas says they “were immediately attracted to each other” and “were attracted to each other”, but they kept their romance hidden from everyone on the set, especially her co-star Danny DeVito.
Describing their relationship as more than an “all-night affair”, he wrote, “We found each other first as friends, then as co-stars and finally as lovers. After a tiring day of shooting in the jungle… I would sneak into her hotel room quietly after everyone went to sleep.”
The “Fatal Attraction” star lost touch when Luker and Cameron visited Douglas on set and he confronted Turner, making it clear that she and Douglas were still married.
Turner “didn’t want to interfere,” so the pair “ended things.”
“I went back to Deandra,” Douglas writes. “I did it for Cameron, but we were never supposed to get back together. After that first split, we were never the same.”
Douglas and Luker eventually divorced in 1995, before he married Catherine Zeta-Jones, with whom he has son Dylan, 26, and daughter Carys, 23.
Meanwhile, Turner was married to Jay Weise from 1984 to 2007, and they have a daughter, Rachel, born in 1987.
The “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” actress dropped some hints over the years, but continued to deny that she and Douglas had an affair.
In 2021, she told the Los Angeles Times that she “definitely had a crush” on Douglas and later described their “amazing sexual tension”, telling People, “Oh, I was pining, babe, but he was still married.”
More recently, in 2023, when asked how close they actually got during the shooting of “Romancing the Stone,” Turner simply replied, “None of your business.”
