The two TV stars got married in 2015 and enjoyed newlywed bliss until the reality of their dwindling vitality rocked their world.

Fever, rashes, rectal bleeding and other problems soon began. He was developing ulcers in his digestive system, and he was becoming “sicker and sicker”. At one point he even had to endure a limb amputation and have an ostomy bag.

His weakening health was not only affecting his body. Sadly, he says this contributed to the collapse of his marriage with Sophia, writing that their partnership had become “devoid of any kind of sentimentality.”

The book reportedly claims that things became so cold in their relationship that Sofia “refused” to hug him PeopleNo matter how much he “begged” her for one. Now, obviously, if someone doesn’t feel like hugging the other person then they shouldn’t do it, but that was reflecting how tense things had become. “In sickness and in health” had clearly gone out the window!

However, perhaps more shocking is the claim that he “ridiculed” her for her chihuahua. bubbleA small dog that he raised for comfort when he was forced to commit suicide. He says his mental health was so badly affected that he had to give up his gun because he was unable to control his thoughts. Bubbles saved him.

“I went from being a patient to being a caregiver.”

Eventually, Joe and Sofia decided to publicly announce their split in 2023. A year later, 51-year-old Sophia gave el pais Her reason for divorce:

“Well, I’m recently divorced from my second husband, who I was with for 10 years. My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I think it’s not fair to the child. I respect whoever does that, but it’s not for me anymore.”

However, his new book refutes this. Saying that “things were said and printed about me that were false,” Joe claims that he was the same person who had given up on having children during his illness. They had tried several rounds of IVF, but to no avail, so the next step would be to get an egg donor. But he says he thought about what would happen if he died, and he couldn’t imagine leaving Sophia with a child “who wasn’t biologically hers.”

It tracks with what he said men’s journal Back in 2024. At the time he was unwilling to explain his illness in detail, but he was prepared to deny her version of events. He told the magazine that he “tried to have a family for the first year and a half,” but it just wasn’t possible for him:

“And we had a big conversation right out of the gate during the first month that we dated. I said, ‘If you’re done with kids, I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what it is, and it’s okay.’ But it was not so with him. And I swore to him that if it didn’t work I would never leave. And I didn’t.”

So, no, the kids “don’t necessarily lose everything,” he says. Instead, according to his description, what really happened was that “two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens.”

As far as his illness is concerned, till date doctors have no diagnosis except that it is some kind of autoimmune disease. In his book Joe writes about seeing a shaman who told him it was connected to generational trauma (his ancestors lost family in the Armenian Genocide). He has since been able to successfully rewire his digestive system and is now symptom free.

“Whatever chains of past suffering my ancestors had, have been completely broken. I have no fear at all about moving forward in my life.”
