Whenever my boyfriend needs something new in his wardrobe, I drag him to Uniqlo. In particular, the JW Anderson collection at Uniqlo, where I always find the perfect button-down or jacket for him. For a scientist who has no interest in fashion but does care about looking presentable, the reasonably priced, quality essentials of the Uniqlo x JW Anderson collab have been a saving grace.
Jonathan Anderson, who currently serves as creative director at Dior, has been designing a small batch of clothing for the Japanese lifewear brand under his eponymous label, JW Anderson, since late 2017. Nearly a decade later, the two are still merging, creating functional clothing for everyday consumers through a range of shirts, jeans, sweaters and jackets.
I can’t figure out why it took me so long to check out the women’s collection. I’ve long admired the construction and cut of button-downs (of which my partner has bought six), but had never thought of trying on any of the women’s pieces until now. If I’m being honest, it’s probably because I’ve been stealing men’s oxford shirts from his closet. The fit feels unisex, and the supple cotton rayon fabric is much softer than the crisp cotton poplin shirts I have.
If the men’s collection is so good, the women’s collection will be worth my effort. After all, Jonathan is designing primarily for women at Dior, and if I trust one man to make clothes for women, it’s him. So, I took myself to my nearest Uniqlo store and bought some JW Anderson x Uniqlo pieces to try. Here’s what made it into my workwear wardrobe (and what didn’t).

where am i wearing it: to work, breakfast and shopping.
As someone who naturally gravitates towards longer and oversized silhouettes, I was surprised by how much I liked this cut-off Oxford shirt. Against of standard oxford shirt, The hemline ends right between the hips and the waist, which feels like a very natural place for a shirt to fall on a woman – especially if you’re wearing high-rise or mid-rise jeans. There’s something very flattering about its boxy cut — I think it styles well with pleated skirts and light jackets for fall.
