The Marvel Cinematic Universe is always expanding with new projects coming to theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Fans who have watched Marvel movies over the years have heard stories about the lengths the studio will go to to protect against spoilers. It’s really hard not to have a complete script. And I will say, if it wasn’t a character that I have played for so many years, it probably would have been difficult to even try because the script is everything. It starts from here.
Honestly, it means a lot. Most actors need access to the entire script of the film in order to properly track their characters’ story, and how it fits into the overall message of the film. Luckily Sebastian Stan has been playing his Marvel role ever since Captain America: The First Avenger Shot back in 2010. But I think because all these characters, well, we’ve all played them, we have all this knowledge and this history and experience with them, I think there’s a trust going into it now that even though these aren’t finished products, we’ll have input. And we will intuitively know where to go, how everyone will react in that situation. So it becomes more collaborative when you don’t have a complete script.
This is an interesting perspective. Not having a script can be challenging, it feels like it can unfold the avenger Sets up more play. Actors are able to trust their instincts and understand their characters, rather than being able to rely on what’s on the page.
The stars of these blockbuster films sometimes don’t even know their character’s fate in the shared universe. Stan opened up about this dynamic, saying:
But sometimes you really go into these movies not knowing whether you’ll survive or not, because, again, you don’t know what the whole script is. And so you’re always wondering if you’re going to die by the end of the movie.
It’s a way of keeping fans in the dark about each new movie until its release. Because how can information be leaked if even their actors don’t know whether they will survive?
