HGTV star defends buying $150K BMW for her 16-year-old daughter

Tarek El Moussa insisted that his 16-year-old daughter has “earned” the luxury car he gifted her.

The “Flip or Flop” alum defended his teaming up with ex-wife Christina Hack, as well as current wife Heather El Moussa, to get his and Hack’s daughter Taylor a $150,000 BMW X5.

El Moussa shared Taylor’s accomplishments during his appearance On the “Money Rehab” Podcast Wednesday, which includes him getting a 4.2 GPA and being MVP of his new football team.

Tarek said, “She’s an absolutely amazing kid and she didn’t just get it. She really earned it and, if you ask me, she deserved it because she worked really hard and she didn’t even ask for that car.”

The television personality said that Taylor “would have been happy with a used Honda,” but the BMW was actually better suited for her peace of mind.

“That thing is built like a tank,” he marveled, “She’s in a safe car, and she likes it.”

Tarek insisted that his daughter is not a “spoiled girl” and that he has been responsible about her financial future by investing in stocks and real estate her entire life.

“She’s been flying in private jets since she was 1 year old, OK, so this kid, she’s grown up in the middle of things,” he said. “So when I grew up, I didn’t have anything, okay? So I’m obsessed with things because I never had things.”

“He always had things,” she continued. “So, she sees things differently than I do.”

It turns out this isn’t the first time Tarek has been generous with car gifting. Host Christina Lapin became suspicious when he recalled buying a white Ferrari for Heather on their second date after she told him it was her dream car.

“She came on the third date,” he bragged.

Tarek posted the video in August on Instagram Heather and Hank surprise Taylor with an expensive silver SUV.

Taylor reacted in shock and wiped away tears, saying, “Oh my God!”

Tarek captioned the video, “What’s more surprising… the car for Taylor or the fact that all three of us actually pulled it off? ??? The car is so worthy, we love you so much Tay.”

Tarek, 45, and Haack, 43, also share 11-year-old son Brayden. The couple were married for seven years before separating in 2016.

Even after their separation, they continued to co-host their HGTV show, “Flip or “Flop,” until the show ended in 2022 after 10 seasons.

Tarek married Heather, 39, in October 2021. She and the “Selling Sunset” star welcomed 3-year-old son Tristan in 2023.

In July, Heather praised a “rude” social media follower who asked her how it felt to never have to worry about money.

“We don’t come from money,” she said of herself and her husband. “Tarek and I, separately and together, have worked very hard to get to where we are today.”
