An unexpected “objection” took the bride and groom by surprise at their recent wedding in the United Kingdom.
For Jessie Banks, 33, and Daniel Banks, 34, it wasn’t negotiable to have their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Westy Banks, be among their 100 guests at their wedding at Roxbury Park in Hampshire, England, on September 26. “She was my maid of honor and we really wanted to have that sweet moment of her walking down the aisle,” Jessie tells People. The proud parents never expected that their beloved child would become so angry at the perfect moment.
During the ceremony, the officiant asked if anyone had any objection to the marriage. If so, “they should declare it now,” he instructed. At that very moment, the vestee – who until then had been completely silent – made a small noise of disagreement from the front row. His sudden babbling broke the silence, causing everyone to laugh.
“We actually couldn’t believe it,” says Jesse.
This hilarious, unexpected moment was captured by a wedding and event content creator Ever Less Media (@everlacemedia on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok) and posted by the bride on social media.
“When your 1 year old objects to a wedding 🫠😭,” Jessie wrote onscreen. “Our little angel wanted to express herself… and go viral on TikTok,” she said in the caption.
The video has been viewed more than 2.2 million times tiktok and 4.6 million views Instagram Since being posted on every platform on September 29th.

Jessie tells People that the funniest thing is that she did everything in her power to “avoid any disruptive events and keep her content.” When the Westie “protested”, he did so from a high chair with a full plate of food in front of him, the purpose of which was to keep him quiet, engaged, and composed.
“I was really worried about it and was indecisive the whole time during wedding planning about whether or not it would work for him to attend the ceremony, but I thought I had everything planned out in advance,” says Jessie. “I really didn’t want any distractions during the vows, so I worked really hard to make it go smoothly.”

That morning, Jesse had timed Westie’s nap exactly to avoid any disturbance during the ceremony. She even had snacks ready to take to the wedding, even making sure they were light-colored so the vesti wouldn’t ruin her white dress.
“The bridesmaids were prepared with plans for her, and I even had a friend prepared a week in advance to escort her out if she made any noise during the ceremony,” says Jessie.
She adds, “Of course, kids will be kids, she’s only 1 year old and it doesn’t matter for the rest of the day, but I wanted her to have a moment of ease in the whole day. I told everyone that the rest of the day was fine but I just wanted the ceremony to be peaceful so that it could be about us.”

Although the ceremony didn’t go exactly as Jessie had planned, she says having Westy speak made it “more special in the end” instead of being her “worst nightmare.” Now that’s a shared fun memory that everyone involved in the wedding will remember forever.
“Knowing how much planning went into keeping Westy quiet made it even funnier,” Jesse tells People. “It was an entire production to try to keep him calm and satisfied and it still ended in that.”

“It would be great to look back and tell her about it growing up but it definitely wasn’t how I planned on it going forward!” She continues, saying of her daughter, “She’s such a little character and the joke is really on me that I think I’d ever be able to reason with a 1-year-old. She’s just a croissant icon who will do what she wants.”
At that moment, Jesse and Daniel looked at each other and laughed. Then Jessie rolled her eyes, turned to Westy and made a jokingly surprised face. But the main thing the proud mom remembers is “how loud the laughter felt in the room.”
