The nation is currently obsessed with the latest Celebrity Traitors series – although what you see on screen isn’t always what’s actually happening in the palace.
Traitor’s first recruit James Acaster has claimed that bosses edited out a key scene which would have shown why Julie Hesmondhalgh was actually deported.
Last Thursday fans watched Coronation Street actress voted by his fellow contestants, despite their disapproval She was the most relatable during the first episode.
This nomination earned him a shield, but James Blunt later revealed his theory that in the voting for Most Trusted Player he had actually chosen his first traitor.
However James Acaster has now revealed that this was not the reason why James Blunt started his campaign against him and wrote his name on the chalkboard.
The comedian explained: ‘The reason James Blunt was in the editing was that Julie was given the first shield. ‘What actually happened was that when he initially got the shoulder tap for the selection of traitors, James told Julie that he thought she was acting suspiciously around the table.’
Celebrity Traitors star James Acaster has claimed bosses edited out a key scene which would have shown why Julie Hesmondhalgh was really made to disappear and says there was ‘evidence of lying’.
Last Thursday fans saw the Coronation Street actress snubbed by her fellow contestants, despite being voted the most trusted by the celebrities during the first episode.
In the moments that follow, before the traitors meet for the first time in the turret, James Acaster is talking to Julie and asks her to look out for people who aren’t coming forward with their principles – because one traitor wouldn’t risk accidentally incriminating another traitor.
Acaster recalled in an interview with Times2: ‘Julie then walked into the room where james [Blunt] and put it in front of everyone and said, “James, like you [Blunt]. You’re not sharing your principles with anyone”, and then James is thinking, “Well, that’s not true because I shared my principles with you at the table.”
‘When Julie was voted off, James presented it as evidence that she lied. That’s why Julie got the vote. Which is not in the edit.
The bosses instead present the SHIELD theory as the reason why Julie’s partner Faithful attacked her, as well as Bella Ramsey’s refusal to share her theories after her murder.
This could potentially put James Blunt in the crosshairs, as he fought so hard to get Julie deported.
This comes after fellow traitor Maya admitted hiring James and Hannah Fry was a ‘stupid decision’ as she shared some behind-the-scenes secrets from her time in the palace.
The Love Island host, 32, has been embracing her inner villain as one of the traitors on the BBC show, and has so far stayed away from any suspicions from the Faithfuls.
Maya was chosen by host Claudia Winkleman to be the traitor along with Richard E. Grant, but the veteran actor made a major mistake that led to him becoming the first player to be eliminated.
In a video shared on TikTok, Maya confessed that she did not know that James and Hannah had both said that they did not want to be traitors, and that if she had known she would never have suggested to Richard that they recruit them.
She said, ‘I feel that enough time has passed and I can talk about some things without spoiling the matter.
While it seemed like James Blunt voted out Julie because of the SHIELD theory, James Acaster has revealed that he actually accused Julie of lying and not sharing his theories.
‘So starting with this, I didn’t know that James and Hannah didn’t want to be traitors because what you see on TV is the interview with Claudia, and obviously if I had known I would have never agreed to recruit them because that’s just stupid.
‘I get it, we’re making the best of a bad situation right now, and I’m stressed.’
Sharing her experience on the show, Maya said: ‘As you can tell I was trying to have fun but it’s intense and when you’re a traitor you go to bed late because you’re in the turret.
‘So I was on minimal sleep from day one because I’m the only OG left.
‘And I didn’t even wash my hair! From episode four on, I didn’t wash my hair because I didn’t have time in the morning. I wanted to sleep more than glam up.
Maya also reflected on the moment the audience saw her unknowingly walk into the room while Sebastian Croft was discussing whether she was the traitor.
She said: ‘Because there are a lot of things you don’t know.
‘The conversation that was happening behind your back. I’m walking into the bash talking about me. no idea. And yes, it’s just, it’s very wild, wild.’
