Break up season? Three gay couples shocked their fans

Breakups can be messy. Breakups can be cool too. And sometimes, the break comes with the Olivia Dean soundtrack playing in the background.

In recent months, three high profile gay couples have announced the end of their relationships in dramatically different ways. One former couple is still exchanging jokes, another quietly went their separate ways, and a third took to the Internet collectively whispering, “Oh no.”

Matteo Lane and Rodrigo Aburto: from husbands to friends

Perhaps the most surprising breaks came from comedian Matteo Lane and dancer and athlete Rodrigo Aburto.

The pair got married in 2023 and quickly became a favorite among fans who loved their playful dynamic. But during an episode of his podcast I never liked youLane confirmed that their marriage was over.

“I’m so uncomfortable. I don’t know how to say this. Rodrigo and I broke up,” Lane shared with co-host and best friend Nick Smith.

Thankfully, this story comes with an unusually perfect twist.

“We’re really good friends, which I love. I feel really proud of that.” Lane clarified that the couple wanted privacy before speaking publicly about their separation.

In perhaps the most Matteo Lane detail, the comedian even called on Aberto to run through his breakup jokes before trying them out on stage.

“I have a lot of jokes. I want to read them with you first,” Lane remembered telling her ex. “And we laughed.”

If this is not an evolving dynamic after marriage, then what is?

Lane sparked rumors that he might be dating Italian model Gianluca Volgare after they shared a photo together in September 2025.

Matt Rogers and Fraser Olander: A Quiet Goodbye

Not every break comes with a podcast announcement.

According to an exclusive report of PeopleComedian Matt Rogers and Bravo personality Fraser Olander have also ended their relationship.

The pair first went public in November when Olander shared an Instagram post explaining why he missed the third day of BravoCon. Months ago, Rogers delighted fans by revealing that their romance started with a “classic DM slide.”

“He said something nice about the awards in an interview, and I wrote his DMs,” Rogers shared Today with Jenna and Sheinelle. “And now he’s my boy.”

However, these days he is not.

Neither Rogers nor Ollender have publicly elaborated on the split, making theirs one of the quietest breaks on this list.

Chris Olsen and Harrison Docherty: The TikTok Heard Around the Internet

Then there’s Chris Olsen and Harrison Docherty.

After eight months together, Olsen revealed their split on TikTok, which immediately garnered attention.

“Just found out I got majorly cheated on in the middle of an Olivia Dean concert,” he said wrote.

That sentence itself seems destined for the Gay Break Up Hall of Fame.

Knight Frank real estate analyst Docherty later confirmed the breakup. PeopleSaying, “Out of respect for the relationship Chris and we share, I would prefer to keep matters private.” He said he hopes both can do it “Lead with kindness and respect.”

Since then, both Olsen and Docherty have stalked each other’s social media accounts, indicating that this chapter is firmly over… or is it?

Celebrity relationships often play out in public, but break-ups reveal something even more human. Some people remain friends. Some move forward silently. And some discover the devastating news while listening to live music, and an Olivia Dean concert at that.

Three gay couples. Three break ups. Three reminders that love stories don’t always end the way we expect, but they still matter just as much.
