CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss has faced a lot of criticism since she was hired nearly a year ago, and that criticism has arguably expanded this past summer. During those months, Weiss initiated the overhaul 60 minutesIn which many veteran anchors and correspondents were fired from their jobs. Along with this, allegations of editorial bias have put Weiss in trouble. Now, one of the latest on-air talents from the previously mentioned show is now speaking out and giving some candid advice to her colleagues amid the setback.
Sir Trevor Phillips – an experienced British broadcaster – was one of several people previously appointed by Weiss 60 minutes‘Return to the 2026 TV schedule for its 59th season. Phillips also serves as CBS’s senior global affairs correspondent and at this time, he has received criticism for joining Weiss & Company. Last week, Phillips reportedly attended a meeting of the company’s London bureau. It was during that discussion that Phillips apparently dropped an F-bomb when he suggested what his colleagues should say to critics of the brand:
Why don’t you just fuck off and let us do our thing?
according to GuardianThis sentiment was shared amid a heated exchange that saw foreign editor Shayndy Rais berate several unidentified staffers. Rais objected to some staffers comparing editorial oversight to “interference” and said that any disobedience to editors would result in “legal grounds for termination.” According to the news outlet, Phillips defended Rice’s argument and expressed surprise that “any of this should actually be said.” Phillips also acknowledged the reaction he received upon joining CBS:

I could tell you for the next hour how many people were there when it was announced I was coming here, for all the reasons they told me, why this is the end of my career and how I’m going to destroy everything I’ve built so far, and all that.
Phillips joined the company in June 2026 after leaving Sky News, where he hosted his own morning show. The announcement comes after the series’ former correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi, Scott Pelley and Cecilia Vega were fired along with others like former EP Tanya Simon and Dragan Mihailovich. Pelley, who was reportedly fired after accusing Bari Weiss of “killing” the show, has been particularly vocal. He added that the iNetwork as a whole needs some “adult supervision”.
Still, as he did during that recent meeting, Phillips has fought against the backlash. He defended Weiss in particular during an interview conducted over the summer, saying that Weiss and his team had “a big tanker of a network news organization.” Furthermore, when discussing Weiss more directly, he stated that “The best thing about him is that he’s one of those guys who will either change the world or crash and burn.” On that note, the company’s news offerings – like 60 And cbs morning – Have seen recent profits and losses.
Although Bari Weiss has some supporters, there has been a backlash against his reported editorial methods, and rumors of staff frustration towards him still circulate. Now that she will no longer be involved with CNN following the Paramount/Warner Bros. merger, the Free Press chief will theoretically continue to devote most of her time to CBS News. It’s unclear what the outcome of those efforts will be, but in the meantime, it seems Sir Trevor Phillips is strongly supporting both him and his colleagues.
