In short, sparks flew after Atwater reconnected with his academy colleague, Officer Tasha Fox (Karen Obilome). And although Fox had plans to move to Miami soon, they slept together before she left. Fox later returned to Chicago with big news: she was pregnant. Atwater was overjoyed to hear the news and soon began thinking about next steps with Fox as they planned to become parents and pursue their romance.

As the Intelligence Unit worked on their latest case, Atwater made a quick phone call to Fox, who was in Florida while getting coffee.
“I’m not going to be calling you every 20 minutes,” Atwater told Fox, even though he was calling her frequently for updates on the child. “I just felt like a kid on the way“
“Oh my God, you’ll drive him crazyKev,” Atwater’s friend Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) quipped while rolling his eyes.
“Yeah, that’s Burgess,” Atwater told Curious Fox before adding, “No, she’s no good.”
After hanging up the phone, Atwater did not have much time as the Intelligence Unit became aware of a murder. atwater helped Officer Eva Imani (Ari Mandi) and the rest of the Intelligence Unit expose a corrupt parole officer. Despite the criminal’s attempts to escape justice, Atwater disarmed and captured him before it was too late. Not even five minutes had passed after cuffing the perp when Atwater got a call.

“Hey- what?” Atwater said after answering the phone. It was Fox who confirmed that she was in labor. “Are you serious, or are you playing? Is the baby coming? Are you sure? You are? OK,” Atwater said.
Atwater was stunned as he processed the news, but luckily friends from his intelligence unit were there to support him. “Kev, go!” Imani said, shooing him away from the crime scene. “Go!”
Atwater summed up his stance thus Adam Ruzek (patrick john fleger) offered him a ride to the airport. Finally the time to go came. As they ran toward Ruzek’s car, Imani yelled after Atwater, “Good luck!”
