Amy Poehler tells Noah Wyle that ‘The Pit’ needs more romance

Amy Poehler sat down with Noah Wyle on Tuesday’s episode “Ok wait” Podcast to discuss both “ER” and “The Pit” following his appointment as People’s Sexiest Man Alive. She also used her time with the actor to give some feedback on the lack of romance on the latter’s hit medical show.

Poehler began, “You’re not asking me for a reaction on ‘The Pit,’ but I’m going to give you a little reaction.” “If you’re going to show that much guts and gore, if you’re going to go out there — and your makeup team is incredible. The work you do is bananas. I don’t see it most of the time. I cover my eyes, but I mean, I can’t take it — but if you’re going to show that much, every once in a while you’ve got to do a little smooching. Somebody’s got to do a little bit of smooching.”

Wyle replied, unconvinced: “Oh, do you think it’s one for one?” Poehler added, “One for one, just a little smooch.” “Just a middle part of the day [smooch]!” Weil remained undeterred, although he said he would “probably” discuss “a ratio of one to four”, but certainly not a ratio of one to one. Poehler concluded, “You’ve got to show guts, you’ve got to show some butt.” (Wyle points out that they show butts on “The Pit,” just not in romantic contexts.)

Wyle played disgruntled attending physician Dr. Michael “Robbie” Robinovitch in two seasons of the HBO drama “The Pit”. His portrayal of the Doctor won him the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series, Drama in 2026 and back-to-back Emmy Awards for Best Actor in a Drama Series in both 2025 and 2026.

Season 3 of the hit medical drama will premiere in January 2027 and will mark Dr. Robbie’s first day back on the job after a three-month sabbatical at the end of Season 2.
