spoilers are ahead scrubs The latest episode, “My Halloween”, is now streaming with a hulu subscription.
i’m really enjoying it scrubs There’s been a revival since its premiere earlier this year, but man, this refreshed second season is really entertaining. Every episode has felt like another highlight on 2026’s busy TV schedule, but this week reminded me how good medical comedies are at tackling more serious topics while also making me laugh. With that said, I have to talk about being surprised by a serious moment.
Dr. Cox’s return reveals the realities of health care
At the end of Season 1, viewers learned that Dr. Cox was suffering from an incurable autoimmune disease. And then, at the beginning of Season 2, it’s revealed that her insurance is not going to fully cover the treatments she needs. While I was happy to see Dr. Cox back for the first time since the season 2 premiere, I was disappointed that it was for a troubling reason.

As the episode unfolds, it’s established that Dr. Cox has taken on the role of a concierge doctor, where he has to deal with a lot of bullying caused by an entitled CEO. When JD asked Dr. Cox what was going on, he explained it this way:
JD, I didn’t come back here because I was bored. I came back here because even with insurance I am drowning in medical bills. The truth of the matter is, I came back here because I need this job… I had a lot of plans for my golden years, but those plans all fell apart, and I did everything I was supposed to do, and then I got sick. And, here I am.
Dr. Cox has spent his entire career as a physician of internal medicine, serving as Chief of Medicine at JD Sacred Heart Hospital. Since he is in his sixties, Cox deserves a comfortable retirement where he no longer has to worry about money and work. However, I am impressed by that scrubs This is an opportunity for retirees to bring this common problem to light. Many of them are forced to go back into the workforce to survive, and Dr. Cox is no exception.
I think the show does an excellent job of showing Dr. Cox’s frustration in the healthcare system, while also making the show as entertaining as ever. Yep, that’s the kind of tricky, thematic balance I love Bushes.
Eliot’s plot also disappointed me
The more dramatic turn for Dr. Cox is certainly a highlight, but there’s also another scare of a theme in “My Halloween.” Dr. Elliot Reed is trying to make a change as a doctor and set up her own women’s clinic, but no one cares. She tries to recruit some other doctors, and thinks that since the new hospital administrator, Cassie, is a woman, she might care enough to carry out her plan. However, he simply closed it down because he did not believe that investing in women’s health care was going to make the hospital money. Oops!
I won’t make a scathing comment about how women’s health care is treated, but like Dr. Cox Arch, I am very surprised scrubs While being filled with many funny moments, it was also able to make a solid point about the health care system. In view of those serious developments as well as their consequences With Elliot’s latest romance gone wrong and the debut of Elliot and JD’s baby, I’m stoked for the rest of the season.
