‘SNL UK’ Weekend Update tackles Meghan Markle’s father’s allegations

“Saturday Night Live UK’s” Weekend Update isn’t afraid to tackle the most controversial topics, as the show proved again this weekend when co-host Paddy Young made a direct reference to the allegations that surfaced last week regarding Meghan Markle’s father.

“In royal news, it’s been a big 24 hours for Meghan Markle, whose father has been accused of being an alleged pedophile in yet another pathetic attempt to win over the British public,” he said.

“In 2025, Thomas Markle moves to the Philippines in a sure sign of his innocence. If the allegations about Meghan Markle’s father are true and that he is a pedophile, there is a real chance that Meghan could be considered a royal.”

This wasn’t the only provocative topic that came up during the latest Weekend Update. Young’s fellow host Ania Magliano also mentioned the recently announced “Glee” reboot — which was a perfect shot at the show itself.

“This week, it was announced that the musical comedy ‘Glee’ will be rebooted on Disney+,” Magliano said. “The original series was famous for its recurring tragedies, including the deaths of several cast members, and was also written, produced, and aired.”

Young also threw his hat in the ring for the James Bond audition, which is due to take place this weekend, and told the audience: “I know it’s late, but I want to put myself forward.” He immediately (deliberately) blew it, and said loudly: “James Bond – bollocks.”

And he also took aim at the BBC, saying: “In big media news, Radio Four Extra has announced it will be closing in what is sure to be a devastating news story for its listeners.”
