Some may call it extreme, but when the seasons change I like to change up my handbags along with the rest of my wardrobe. The bag trend may evolve slower than our everyday clothes, but I to do Think there is a difference between summer and winter bags. Dark colors, heavy materials, moody vibes – there’s something very romantic about cold weather stuff.
At this year’s fall-winter runway shows, practicality led the way on the handbag front. There are no more small bags or pieces left for accessories. Instead, I saw a ton of slung shoulder bags and large bowling bags hanging from models, ready to carry their essentials for the day. So, this season’s It bags are meant to support the woman on the go – who has places to be and people to see.
This means that even smaller picks, like the barrel numbers that every street style influencer is loving right now, are big enough to carry a phone, wallet, keys, and headphones. Although there are as many ultra-stiff and structured shapes as you can imagine, there’s a certain cozy appeal to my favorites that gives them a slightly lived-in, lived-in look. We’re in for a ’90s revival this fall, and the barrel bag is one of the defining silhouettes of the decade — so of course it’s being revived for a big comeback. (Just look at the renewed interest in The Row’s ’90s BagWhich was first introduced in 2014 but is really catching on with the fashion crowd now.) The simple yet chic design pairs seamlessly with CBK-inspired minimalist outfits like knee-length pencil skirts and turtleneck sweaters. Plus, they’re the perfect size and shape to throw over your shoulder for a night out.
Insider Tip: The barrel bag is best suited for evening events. Style yourself with thin, transparent garments or a loose-fitting look with little or no embellishments.
