Britney Spears calls out image copycats

Britney Spears wants everyone to remember who did it first.

On Saturday (October 17), the 44-year-old pop superstar took Instagram To comment on “a lot of girls” who have copied “my whole image from when I was younger”.

Spears’ lengthy post was accompanied by a video of her dancing in front of the camera wearing a long-sleeved white button-down shirt tied at the waist, a short light gray skirt and red shoes. The clip was soundtracked by Chris Isaak’s 1995 song “Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing”.

“And yes, it’s nice but at least mine was real,” the “Toxic” singer wrote. “I was stupid enough in school to be real… The world has become fake… People who are actually real get hated on… Which is a shame… Okay.”

Although Spears did not name anyone specifically, her comments may point to the schoolgirl look she popularized in her 1998 music video “…Baby One More Time”, which has surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube. In the visual, directed by Nigel Dick, Spears dances in a high school hallway in a tied white shirt, pleated skirt and braided pigtails.

She may also have been referring to other memorable looks from her early career, including the red catsuit “Oops I Did It Again” And during that time she wore a crop top and low-rise pants “I am your slave” Era.

Spears added, “For all the girls that say I’m history… I’m prophecy.” “I’m the original Apple B school girl who did backflips and backhand springs and fell in love with every set I went on… These years were so precious, so young and innocent… The world has been hating on me and I’m still standing, living and dreaming.”

Spears concluded her post with a final thought on beauty and appearance, adding, “P.S. No makeup makes you look too young.”

The post comes after Spears released “She’ll Never Be Me,” a previously unreleased song co-written with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake and collaborators Bradley Dymond and Alex Greggs. The track arrives ahead of the November 6 release of the 25th Anniversary Edition of their 2001 album brittany.
