Diddy’s prison head injury mystery: Feds deny fight with drug lord

The Bureau of Prisons says Sean Combs was sent to the hospital with a head injury he suffered during a scuffle with a drug lord last week. However, the actual cause of the injury and Combs’ current condition remain secret.

“Although, for confidentiality, safety and security reasons, we do not comment on the conditions of confinement for any individual in our custody, we can tell you that the story you are referencing is false and did not happen,” say officials at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. Diddy had a fight with fellow inmate Christopher “Dudus” Coke on October 9, which made headlines and recently, according to reports from TMZ and others. NBC News did an expose on Combs’s contraband and high life restrictions on the minimum security facility and its more than 4,200 residents.

Coke may not have been involved, but something clearly went down, because Combs was taken to a local hospital on the morning of October 10 due to something bothering his noggin. He returned to Ft. I’m told dicks were out about 12 hours later, with no stitches or noticeable healing. Since then, the entire situation has gone into lockdown, literally and figuratively.

At the end of an abusive and violence-related trial, Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison in September 2025, pleading guilty by an NYC jury to two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Due to release date back-and-forth, Diddy is currently scheduled to be released on March 2, 2028.

It is extremely rare for the BOP to reveal anything about an inmate, no matter how high-profile. Still, the leaks about the Combs case and what happened last week make it seem like some information or misinformation was allegedly coming from inside Ft. Dix and the authorities felt compelled to address the matter. The BOP said today: “Sean Combs is in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and is incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix. Beyond that, we have no additional information to provide.”

In fact, I’ve learned that even people close to Combs know very little.

“We appreciate the BOP’s clarification, which confirms our concerns about the accuracy of the initial reports,” Combs spokesperson Judah Engelmayer told Deadline Thursday. “We have not independently verified the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, and I do not want to speculate about what may or may not have happened. At this point, we have no verified information indicating that Shawn was attacked by Christopher Coke or anyone else, or that he suffered injuries.”

Combs has been in solitary confinement after photos of him smuggling smartphones and other luxury items became public. Trapped in the SHU (Special Housing Unit), as it is called, Combs has very limited communication with the outside world.

Communication appears to be limited by design and choice.

Over the past week, Diddy has not used the daily calls he provides to communicate with his lawyers. Nor has he contacted other representatives alone. Because Combs, 56, is over the age of 18, the Bureau of Prisons is not required to release any information about him. Simply put, if Combs wants someone, anyone, to know what’s going on, it’s his call.

The Bad Boy Records founder isn’t making that call.

Mitigating factors may occur when he is released from SHU. Sources say that unless there are other incidents, Combs will remain in solitary confinement for at least another week.

In the free world, and after failing to get a pardon from old party friend Donald Trump, Combs is fast-tracking an appeal of his case. Additionally, the multiple-Grammy winner is facing multiple civil lawsuits and a possible sexual battery indictment from the LA District Attorney.

Following a trial in the summer of 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York narrowly missed a Manhattan jury in its efforts to find Combs guilty of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. If Combs had been found guilty in a trial filled with filmed sex parties and freakouts, the beating of Cassie Ventura, drug abuse, threats, exploding cars and allegedly hanging people from balconies, the one-time mini mogul could have been sentenced to life in prison.
