In the fantasy adventure, Violet is forced by her mother to enter the brutal world of the Basgith War College. She joins hundreds of candidates attempting to become the elite of the nation of Navarre: the Dragon Riders.
In the book, 20-year-old Violet is well on her way to becoming a scribe (historian), following in the footsteps of her father Asher, when her mother, General Lilith Sorangel, inspires her to change her path and become a dragon rider.
Away from the safety of the archives, where scribes record and keep records of the history of Navarre, Violetta walks over the parapet to bond with a dragon and take on a very dangerous and highly lethal occupation. There, he encounters Jaden Ryerson, a descendant of a rebel sect of the populace and a generally anxious cadet with mysterious, shadow-wielding powers. Basgiath War College has a rule “Graduate or die.” Riders without their dragons are equal dead, and vice versa, which emphasizes the bond between human and beast formed on Threshing Day.
