Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s rocky road to the altar

Last month marked three years since Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness announced their separation after nearly 30 years of marriage. Now the Broadway star and his girlfriend Sutton Foster are preparing for a trip of their own – if they can stop fighting over the legal issues that are getting in the way of their happy life.

“Hugh and Sutton are doing well, but a lot of things aren’t going right for them,” a source close to the couple revealed, adding that the pair were recently spotted out and about in Los Angeles.

“The prenup is one of their problems, but every time they solve it the problem gets more complicated.”

While Hugh’s divorce from Deb, 70, was set for 2025, Sutton’s is reportedly being delayed. Despite initially filing for an uncontested separation from her ex-husband, Ocean’s Eleven writer Ted Griffin, 55, they are still sorting out custody issues of their nine-year-old daughter Emily.

“Sutton’s divorce not being finalized is a big problem because it affects any proposal she brings to the wedding,” our insider says.

A prenup stands in their way

Meanwhile, Hugh’s children are now adults, so there is no child support and Deb takes a lump sum instead of alimony.

The source continues, “Deb wants some kind of assurance that Oscar and Ava’s fate is protected in her prenup, so in addition to protecting the children’s trust, she’s free to marry Sutton. “Unfortunately, she’s still figuring it out with Ted, who is taking everything slow.”

Adding to their stress, Sutton, 51, and Hugh, 56, want to start over with a home of their own, but the X-Men star still hasn’t sold the $53 million New York estate he owns with Deb.

Dubbed the “house of broken dreams”, the luxury five-bedroom pad has been listed for sale twice, but a buyer is proving elusive. And until someone comes along, Hugh – despite his million-dollar movie pay check – can’t afford to invest in any other property. And this has a deep impact on the prenup and their wedding plans.

“Hugh and Sutton have a huge wealth gap,” the insider explains.

“They both have careers that are making money, but in a prenup, it’s not so easy to ‘divide what we make together’ when one is doing Wolverine and the other is running Broadway.”

their kids aren’t ready

The source further said, complicating things means facing sensitive issues that neither of them want to discuss.

“They’re both dealing with prenups for the first time, so the cheating clauses and things like ‘lump sum after X years’ make it feel like a test, not like a marriage.”

All the adults involved are conscious of making sure the three children stay safe, but it’s also forced to focus on the reality Hugh is facing – that his grown children aren’t as excited about their father’s wedding plans.

According to our insider, Oscar, 26, and Ava, 21, aren’t ready to attend their dad’s bridal party.

“They’re both very loyal to their mom and it’s been a tough time for them,” we’re told.

“Hugh and Sutton may argue over clauses and trusts, but one thing they agree on is that there’s no guest list until their kids come on board.”
